Portaferry and Strangford Viking Camp Activities

Portaferry Viking Camp – Castle Park - Beside Exploris

​

Viking reenactors will be in Portaferry and will tell the shared Viking story of the two villages to visitors. A full-size replica longship will be on display.

​

The camp will be open from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday to show how Viking folk lived in the area more than a thousand years ago. Demonstrations throughout each day will be by crafts people using medieval tools and ancient skills and will include blacksmithing, woodworking by Hoddmimirs Wood Craft, pottery, basket weaving by Welig Heritage Crafts & jewellery making.

There will be beautiful hand made goods you can purchase.

Sean Parry from Sacred Knott Tattoo will talk about his work and will have goods on sale from the Northern fire artists collective.

Visitors to the camp can try archery and spear throwing and hear Skalds tell Viking sagas, participate in children's treasure hunts, and see fierce warriors do battle.

Timed activities Saturday & Sunday:

11.00 am: Children's Treasure Hunt led by Desi Cano & Stefan Barry

​

12.00 pm: Story Telling – Skald Ed Gamester will have children & adults bursting with laughter

​

1.00 pm: Fierce Viking Warriors Do battle

​

1.30 pm: Children's Viking Battles

​

4.00 pm: Viking camp closes

Strangford Viking Camp – The Green Strangford

​

Viking reenactors will be in Strangford and will tell the shared Viking story of the two villages to visitors. Full-size replica longships will be on display and on the lough. Sailors from the Vikings TV Series will tell you about their adventures.

The camp will be open from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday to show how Viking folk lived in the area more than a thousand years ago. Demonstrations throughout each day will be by crafts people using medieval tools and ancient skills and will include, woodworking, pottery, weaving, jewellery making, Raven Haven Avairy and Rune Reading. There will be beautiful hand made goods you can purchase.

Visitors to the camp can try axe throwing and hear Skalds tell Viking sagas, participate in children's treasure hunts, and see fierce warriors do battle.
